Hate it or love it, Aussie ingenuity and a few cable ties have done it again. Before the hate flows, please remember that this is a temporary fix until I can afford new boots for these gauges on my bike.
Also note the *&%^$@@ missing trip odemeter knobby thingamjigger. Weird, the shaft that is still hidden in the bowels of the speedometer does not appear to be broken, it's a factory finish with clearly concentric ridges on the end of the shaft. What the? Did the PO just snap off the plastic bit?
I have ZERO experience with that vintage of instrument, but I do recall some Honda instruments of the `70s that had a two-piece trip knob. The knob had a stubby threaded shaft that screwed into the instrument shaft, deep in the instrument housing. Disassembly required reaching deep in there with toothed bent-tip needlenose pliers to hold the main shaft while trying to break loose the knob shaft. Tricky...
Yep, that sort of chimes with what I've observed so far, the end of the internal shaft stub is machined and I think I can see a hint of thread. Thanks for the advice
