Which way do you turn the cam chain tensioner to tighten the chain? Im pretty sure it's counter clockwise. My push rod in the tensioner is seized and the chain is loose
I took it by a Yamaha dealer and he said I need a new cam chain tensioner but I'm a tight budget will have to o manage for now
I have an 81xs650 special

To check out what the guy said you can remove the tensioner by just unscrewing it from the housing. The adjuster and the plunger and spring will come out. Once out will the plunger move inside the adjuster. If so put it back the way it came out. You also want to push the plunger into the adjuster as far as it will go. It should protrude about 1/16 inch or so. If not then it might have the wrong damper installed.
As with most things, lefty loosy, righty tighty.
