Can I replace the starter gear with the engine still in frame?

I know this is a silly question... but can I replace the starter gear without taking the engine out of the frame?
I have the new gear and all of the parts needed.

- sure, drain the oil and remove the rh footpeg, kick start lever and rh engine casing...good chance to do an oil change and check the filters...check the starter gear on the crankshaft too
