Clutch Basket - Torque Spec

I've done the search and it seems I cannot find - a full torque spec sheet for the XS -is there one here that I can download?

And - if not I have seen both 45flbs, 50ftlbs, and even 90ftlbs for the clutch basket nut.

Does anyone have the figure?

I don't hand out fish, but I'll gladly teach you how to catch your own. Go to www.biker.net and download the factory service manual. If you don't find the torque specs there, you haven't really looked.

Thanks I took a look but I guess I haven't really looked. I can not find any service manual for a 1971 XS-1B. 1978 yes and parts manuals but no service manuals. I will keep looking. thanks

The transmission shaft, clutch assembly, cases (with the exception of later modification of castings for electric start)--in other words, all relevant components--are nearly identical in 71 and 78 motors. You can use and trust the late torque specs.

Perfect thanks so much. Doing the clutch now as it needed an adjust and spruce up. It took 3 hours to scrape the old 20 year gasket from the cases... my fingers are still numb.
