My factory manual lists the torque for the drive sprocket at 36 ft-lbs. Seems low, especially since those nuts seem to have a tendency to come loose. I searched for this and found some threads that mention 75 to 80 ft- lbs. What is the best torque to use?

I think I go 80to 90 ft-lbs
Anything less than that usually lets the shaft leak a bit.

Yes, you want that nut really tight. This is a spec Yamaha changed several times over the years, not sure why. I use the early spec, about 94 ft/lbs. This seals things up good. I used to use less, in the mid 70's I think, but always had oil streaks on the sprocket, indicating some slight weeping .....

It never actually dripped, but the streaking told me it wasn't sealing 100%. With the 94 ft/lbs the streaking is gone so now it is.
