So I've got about 450 miles on the bike and top end rebuild, and other than some minor annoying issues, the bike has been 100% dependable, starts on 1st or 2nd kick. Took it around the block last night and about a mile from home it shuts off like someone turned off the key. I dick around a little with it, but it's hot out and it's gonna be dark soon, so I do the walk of shame back to the homestead and grab my little utility trailer and retrieve the bike. Discovered quickly today the issue- apparently I didn't tighten the advance locking ring enough and it backed off until the locating pin fell out. Popped it back together, gave the ring an extra tap with a drift, and it fired right up.
For the time being I'm going to check the unit for tightness every few hundred miles, until I'm satisfied it's not going anywhere. Gotta get a tool bag, too- this was totally fixable roadside. Part of the fun!
