Hi Guys

Apologies for the basic question but i just want confirmation. Ive never done a full electrical layout before sooooo....What stuff typically goes on electrics board? Space is limited and i made custom plate that mounts under the seat. I just want to make sure i havn't overlooked any components before i drill.

For legal reasons in my system i need to run:

Headlight (standard bulb)
Running and brake light (LED)
4 x turn Signals (LED) and possibly a signal on indicator
Horn
Speedo and Tacho (backlit)
Number Plate light (LED)

The bike has a PMA installed, running a cap & no battery, starter removed.

So i figure i need space for:

Reg/Rec
Fuse box
LED Flasher relay
Capacitor

The attached wiring diagram with the additional horn and plate LED is my plan :wink2:

I don't think your gonna be able to run a capacitor, especially with all the lights.

Hmm i hope not. I didn't make this diagram another member did and it seemed fine. Im sure I'm not the first guy to run this setup. Im only running an additional horn and 2 x single LED plate light over the diagram.
The total draw of all the LEDs when running is tiny, thats why i went LED and the PMA puts out 200W. Headlamp is H4 60w. I expect some dimming at idle using flashers etc though. If anyone has run a similar setup please say how it went.

Whats the question lol

that was helpful

Not well, like I said your drawing power for backlit speedo and tach(probably a small 12v bulb, unless your supplier states otherwise), a tail, and a headlight, and license plate leds.

If you absolutely have to run a capacitor I'd have a switch to turn the coils on and start the engine, then switch to a position where the lights and all come on, every time you kick her the electricity is going to be used instantly in those lights and the power diminishes as the capacitor won't hold a charge.

If you haven't bought the capacitor don't, get two ub-xxx batteries (can give you more info if you'd like) there are many differing sizes which allow you to easily carry a back up if your going on an out of state ride.

What I have (UB1208) Never had a problem until I left the ignition on all night but the amps are so low it wont fry your pamco.

What I'm looking to get (UB1234)

Hmmm That looks pretty good. Not too big at all. Thanks for that. I suppose i could always try with the cap and if i get issues switch to the battery.

If you haven't bought the capacitor don't

Like i said pay half the price get the ub1208 to get it running right.... splurge for a cap later... too many people post how can i switch back, and ive seen caps fail, swell and make a mess, but i've also seen reg/recs fail as well. Save some money get a bat and trouble shoot timing etc first seriously the cap wont help you time your pamco ask pete

Either way I always like to have a 12v somewhat high cca(275 or so) to push a starter/ check for shorts. And car batteries tend to fry the reg/recs, sooo yeah at least get a stable 12v dc source to troubleshoot with somewhat low amp hour (assuming you dont have another scoot)

Cant weld but have done several different electrical harnesses/upgraded ignitions HD to BMW electricity runs the bike as much as gas IMO

Yep i have a battery i use for testing and setting stuff but its the stock type and physically much bigger than i'd like to use for my project.

So, you suggesting using 2 x 1208's or 1 x 1234? Is that right?

as far as mounting stuff on an electrical board, most everything can mount to one, just remember the reg/rec should be out in the open, it gets warm and this heat needs to dissipate.

Mrriggs has no trouble running capacitor only, even having the headlight on during kickstart. But, he's also running his own homebuilt HEI ignition, which has less demand.

Myself, I'm running the UB type batteries (for deer feeders). No troubles and long lasting, so far.
Out here, they do annual inspections, and expect the electrics to work with the engine turned off.
