Girards Build!

Looking good man! If you need some custom bars, Jay at Jumpstreet Customs does great work. He's got stuff on his site, but he'll also do customs and one-offs.

I believe figure8 has an electrics tank he might be getting rid of that was made by Wes of Counterbalance. Don't know what it looks like, though.

I emailed Jay but havn't heard back yet. I talked to figure8 I just having decided what to do. can't make a decision for some reason haha. Thinking about buying the tc bro's battery box and modifying it maybe to make it a bit nicer and see if that will work maybe. Thats my goal today is to decide what I'm gonna do.

This is where I'm at now.

the tank is just mocked up for now. At first it was really bothering me. something just didn't look right between the bars and the tank. The more I look at it the more I like it. Plus I think it will help once I get the wheels on and everything is at its proper height.

got the new tires on! really happy with how they look. matching Avon's

so a question, looking at fenders. my tire is 5" wide. looking on lowbrow the fenders i like are 4-3/4" and 6" thoughts? 4-3/4" prob gonna be too tight, is 6" gonna look way to big?

next up, electrics. I think im gonna try to make this work.

powdercoat it, add a latch. the battery isn't going in it and I am gonna put the ignition switch into the side. pretty fired up with the progress.

What Avon tire are you running? Does it actually measure out to be 5" or is it slightly larger...

I think that it looks better with an overlap... at 6" you've got about 12mm on either side which isn't an excessive amount of overlap...

I'm running a 5" Shinko 270 (which measures closer to 5.5") with the Lowbrow 6" stingray fender...

Thats the fender im looking at. Thanks for the visual!

got my fender, sissy bar and a few other things in. pretty pumped. question for you guys, how far down do you suggest running the fender? i got the 6" so it won't fit through the swingarm, but is that where you normally stop it or do you modify it to go a bit lower.

It's all what you prefer dude. Mine goes past the swingarm but mine is much skinnier. I gotta stress this though, even if you only run yours to the swingarm you might have an issue with the chain. You may have to make a notch out of the side so the chain doesn't hit.

ooooh good call. thanks man, definitely will look into that, most likely have to i bet.

No sweat man, chain is one of the last things to go on. Didn't want you to think you were home free to have a wtf moment right at the end.

Hi Girard good to see your build coming along very nicely glad you went with keeping your rear shocks, as cool as hard tail's look are not real practical unless your roads are real good, keep up the good work, getting the look right is the tricky bit, but you seem to be on the right track, good luck with it

next question, so I purchased some Kreem for my new tank. now I noticed randomly that Hugh and a bunch of people had commented on a FB post that kreem sucks. and sure enough I did some digging and apparently, it does suck haha. SO heres my question. I plan on only running this tank one season then buying a new one next year to get properly painted. Should I
A) throw the Kreem in the garbage and buy some red kote or
B) just run it raw for a season?

So i got the fender lying on the tire just to see what I'm up against. I'm not sure I like it. the 6" fender is pretty wide. this is what it looks like with a roll of electrical tape as spacing, so about 3/4"

I'm having a hard time deciding what to do. The fender is also so wide that it presents a bit of a problem down near where I would mount it to swing arm. The rod that holds brake caliper hits, I will have to modify it a bit to fit down a bit lower past the swingarm just for mounting purposes as well as the chain. I really like the fender but I'm just not sure its gonna work for me. Anybody have any suggestions? Is this a normal issue? I have no problem modifying it a bit but if there is an easy way that I'm somehow missing I would rather not mess around. How are you guys making a close fender when the wheel is adjustable? I know approx. where it will sit however I don't have my engine in so I can't put the chain on to see where it will sit in the end. Thoughts?

finally spent some time in the garage and made some good progress.
cut the fender

took me so much damn time messing around with these but finally won!

mock up. I lost track of the amount of times i had parts on and off haha

all tacked up now. super super happy. that sissy bar took me so much longer than I had intended but happy with the end result. it was pretty tight between the shocks and the brake caliper but after a few beers and some grinding I got everything to fit.

This is what I have figured out for my ignition/electronics

Now I am trying to figure out how to secure the end on. I was thinking about welding some tabs/nuts and bolting it on but would rather have some sort of hinge/latch. I just havn't found anything I'm crazy about yet. Well just wanted to share my progress! Thanks for looking. Next up is to try to figure out electronics tank cap and mounting for it. rectifier mounting, then i have to strip it all down again, finish welding sissy bar and fender and paint the frame with rattle can (just for this summer) I am also struggling to figure out what to do with my licence plate. I am "supposed" to run it horizontally here but i'm not a huge fan of that so we'll see.
