headlight problems

I'm not getting any power to my headlight, any help or suggestion?

Broken wire? Search for electric diagram right for your year model and start checking. Or maybe it is just dead bulb?

your safety relay may be closed, check the yellow wire from your stator depending on model and configuration. where are you located in ohio?

a dirty ignition switch and/or high low switch can cause grief. My switches were so dirty inside that it is a wonder anything worked. Got a multi tester?

Start at the bulb socket and work your way back with a meter or test light. Stock? Year?

i can take a wire and touch the power line to the inigtion switch and touch the yellow wire on headlight and it comes on, i leave it on for about a min and take it off and the headlight stays on and than i can switch the light from bright to dim they stay on until i switch the key off...i live in bryan ohio, it's a stock 1979 xs650. i'm clueless when it come to wiring and electrical stuff, can i just hook up a toggle switch for the light?
