Ive been gone for a while but Im back. Finally got all settled in and ready to build. I am beginning to put the motor back together but when I was taking everything apart I removed the charging system and one of the little retaining rod things fell right out. My question to you guys is: Should I worry about this? ...or do I need to do something?

Those tabs are mostly to ensure stator positioning during stator assembly. The hold-down screws are what really keep it in place.

You could jb-weld it back on.

Or, better yet, drill a pair of opposed/aligned holes that would hold a pair of strengthening pins, like pegs in furniture. They can be loose fits, so no worry over precise hole alignment. Fill the holes with jb-weld, insert the pins, refit the broken tab, clean-off excess glue.

That should fixidided it...

Hi Ccanady,
It's ridiculous that such a massive casting should be so frail in places, eh?
That stupid flimsy tab bust off of mine too.
I said "F*ck it, anything that breaks that easy couldn't have been doing much" and bolted the stator right back on without it.
It's been working fine ever since.
And that was 20 years ago.

I had one bust off too. Said F it.

Was going to post up that same question as well and said F it to that too.

My reasoning aligned what what TwoMany said and my solution was Fred's thinking.

Thanks for asking the question as well as the answers.
