I’m looking for the x bracket that goes on the caps and the angle piece that connects the bottom of a pair of 74-75 bs 38s. Also lookin for jets in good shape if anyone has stuff for sale

You’ll get more bites placing this in the classifieds under wanted, maybe @gggGary can make that happen, but I believe @DogBunny may have one of the carb pieces you’re looking for. Also, jets are more than cheap enough that you should just grab those instead of using old bits

74 75 didn't have those partz, use two throttle cables.

Yeah I'm stumped, the cross over type choke you have is correct for a 74-75 set, But the brace and single pull throttle throttle shaft setup didn't come til 76 which have two chokes connected by a choke rod. Are they from "some other bike"? Franken carbs built from parts? Dunno...
@5twins ??

Check the brass see which year (if) it matches?

That’s what was throwing me off too. Almost like there are too many different things that imply different years.

Any idea on the brass I’m missing from the bottom side of the carb that’s covered by the floats? What it is?

That's part of the mystery, 74-75 carbs don't have that choke feed pipe on the RH carb, they get the choke mixture through a crossover tube from the LH carb.

I’m sorry I’ve got them swapped right for left in that pic see the choke lever? So that brass post that sticks dow into the bowl supplies the choke? Cus these carbs have a crossover pipe supplying the right side choke from the left one. Should I post a pic with All the hoses on?

Franken-carbs for sure. They appear to be '74-'75 carbs that someone has swapped the longer, linkage type butterfly shafts into. You can't install the bottom angle across the carbs because there is no casting and no screw holes for it .....

The best you could do is install the top butterfly shaped plate and hope it is enough to keep the carbs aligned and hold the sync adjustment.

It didn’t look like there was anywhere to bolt the bottom angle iron to. You’ve now dashed my hopes forever. I don’t really like the idea of just the top brace, all the vibration seems you’d run the risk of cracking the casting of the carbs

No problem, I saw they were crossed.
So that brass post that sticks down into the bowl supplies the choke?
Yes that's' why it's only on the LH carb.
Have these carbs ever run?

Yes, the right carb has no choke feed tube because it has no choke. They left it out because there was no need for it.

Got ya, makes sense. The singe throttle is what’s throwing it off. Because the carbs have to be synced together and that’s dang near impossible without them being mounted solid to each other.

Yes I’ve run them about 75 easy miles on new motor but they’ve never been quite “right”.

Yes, the right carb has no choke feed tube because it has no choke. They left it out because there was no need for it.
So what I really need is to get throttle on the right carb set back up for a cable somehow and switch to 1 into 2 cable?

Not exactly. Early bikes had two separate throttle cables and a twist grip that took two cables. So, you'd need to find a '75 or earlier throttle assembly and the original, correct butterfly shaft for the right carb. It would have the threaded outside end to bolt on a cable arm just like the left carb has .....

:twocents: finding a set of complete carbs of either type would be the easy (better?) path.
The road to hell is paved with "almost right" MC partz.
