Reassembling my 447 points motor after a rebore, did not split the cases, all gears seemed to engage on the stand, neutral was just that and motor would turn over with wrench freely before this phase of assembly.
Cleaned clutch plates and reassembled per the book, kick starter next after reading lots here, it goes on good, using zip tie to pull spring around and clip it to post, cover goes on and even snicks into place so I know kick start is not sticking out too far, go to turn the motor over using the kicker and it is not turning no how. See first picture, the mark on the end of the shaft tells me the kick stopper at the inner end of the shaft is at 7 o'clock. If I put the wrench on the end of the crank and turn it counterclockways, the kick start will turn down through its range of motion and will return to at rest position. Without "helping" it with the wrench on the crank, the kick start lever will not turn the motor over whether the cover is off or on the motor. The clutch is assembled on the motor and the six screws are tightened up to snug from my wrist not my arm. The push rod is not installed.
Analysis: Since the cover goes on without force, I am thinking that the kick starter shaft is installed correctly. Please let me know if the kick stopper does rest at the 7 o'clock position as in the picture.
Since I had the starter motor off to clean and reinstall, I took the other small side plate back off and pulled the gears off to eliminate any potential error in that spot.
I am thinking that I installed it correctly and that it will not work until the covers are back on and the clutch adjusted. Is that logical, better yet, accurate?
Research in the threads usually spoke of how the kick start would slip, only a few spoke of how the motor would not turn at all with the kick start lever.
