I'm about ready to lace up my first set of wheels. Searching on here I've found some great resources on how to do it. Some people are recommending using a thread lubricant on the spokes. This makes sense but what do you use for a lubricant, grease, oil...or does it matter?

Thanks Bill

I use anti-seize. I also test fit every nipple and spoke together. You can get bad ones where the threads are screwed up. Never had a bad nipple, only spokes, but I suppose it's possible, too.

Hmm maybe thats why Mikes sent me 40 spokes in the 36 spoke kit?

Thanks for the info.

- he probably buys them like that...many hubs are 40 spoke...still, its good to have some spares

Hmmm . . . I just laced up and trued my front wheel the other day. Didn't use any lube. Now I'm wondering do I have to go back and undo everything.
