Had a 1982 XJ650RJ Seca. I had a similar issue (clean air and all) and used aluminum (aluminum for across the ponders) pop rivet washer to lift the needles.

Beauty !Oh my, I'm afraid mine's not much more than a slightly modified stocker. It runs, rides, and handles nice enough for the way I use it .....
I had that in black. Fine bike. I switched to an 18 tooth countershaft sprocket. I rode from Yuma to Phoenix most weekends for a year,1979.
That's a long , hot, flat hump from Y2P. I've made it myself countless times and have seen some of the strangest things ever imagined on that stretch of road.
Fell asleep on the bike at night. Woke up in the next lane. Promptly pulled off and stretched out on a sleeping bag for 20imutes of shuteye.
1977 Yamaha XS650 - dreamed about it for a long time. Three months ago I bought it, put it in order, ready for viewing.

I hope the above link works. I thought I would share the progress I have made this summer. I am waiting patiently for parts from Mike's XS. Man they take ages to get to the UK. Ordered on the 28th July. Not too long now I hope. Let me know what you think.

I find this type of music helps me focus and remain calm. Both of which are required to do this type of work. Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance.

I am glad you asked that. I am not sure whether to keep them or go with the OEM style. They are KONI.

At night you could be the only headlight for miles in the 70s. Clean dead bugs of headlight and face shield every half hour or sooner.
Visited "The Throttle Stop" in Elkhart Lake, WI (think Road America race track) today. Open displays, no barriers, get up close and almost personal. My pics are 1.9-3.2 mps so I cant load them
