Mannulus Mechanica (build thread)

Started working on my forward “oil tank” mount. I think I found every dull drill bit I own drilling the hole :cautious:. I think it’s tool sharpening time.

My grinder has this. I have the fine wheel on the other side. Bone head move.

Made some progress on my peg mounts. Got my Monster Craftsman bracket and drilled them out to accept HD peg clevis’s and welded the clevis’s onto the brackets. Then made some bracket mounts. Still need to trim and tweak em a bit. Peg needs to go down and forward about .25-.5”. But you get the idea. Rear brake lever is from a sporty, it’s captured on the clevis’s with a bronze bushing I turned.

It’s looking good! You having any trouble fitting that gas lens cup on with that standard size heat insulator? Almost all of my gas lens or specialty cups came with different ones

Nope, it’s a no8 cup on a gas saver lens with an insulator for a wp17/gas saver. I have some big Pyrex cups as well for when I need a bunch of stick out. But I don’t use em to often.

Idle curiosity....
You gonna make heat shields for the pipes?
Plans for the front... fender or fork brace?
Yes I’m going to run heat shields, at least on the top pipe. I was not planning on running a front fender, but I’m not sure about a fork brace. My original plan was to turn down everything off the lower legs save the right caliper tabs and polish the lowers. But I’m not sure now, I might run a brace, I’m not really concerned about handling. I mean it is a rigid, it’s gonna handle like crap no matter what so I’m not real concerned with a tight front end. Im more concerned with looking good.

You’ve done such nice work on this bike, everything has been so well thought out and executed. I’ve seen way too many hack jobs on bobbers and choppers, that give them a bad name. But you are setting the bar high!

Thank you @Mailman! Sometime in the very near future the tin work will be going to @Jim for some traditional 1950's flames :sneaky:. In the mean time I have a LOT of weld clean up from PO of the frame. I got a new Dynafile over the weekend which will make quick work of that, gotta love new toys.

I understand how you got that up on the table from page 1, but I am a bit curious how you are going to get her down.
'TT'
I move the bikes on and off the table with a pair of aluminum ramps. I've had the chopper down and my 80 up there several times since I assembled the chopper. It takes a bit of effort to push the 80 up the ramp but its not to bad.
