1979 XS650 Special
I had made an attempt at this before, but neglected it.
This will serve as my "build thread" even though my "build" isn't much compared to some of the crazy projects I have seen on here.
I was born and grew up in Denmark and got a 49cc Puch Maxi when I was 14 or so, and a Yamaha FS1 after that. I moved to the US in 1995 and started driving cars. I was 16. Can't do that until you are 18 in Denmark.
Fast forward many years ... several jobs, several states later, I have a wonderful wife, 2 wonderful kids and I'm living in Charlotte, NC. I miss 2 wheels and my wife and parents all said the same thing "I think you need a motorcycle" .... and you know what ... they were right!
Having had an FS1 I thought the only sensible thing to do would be to buy a "big brother" type of motorcycle to what I had as a kid, so I settled on the XS650.
This was one of the bikes that originally inspired me:

This site was a HUGE factor in buying an XS650 given the massive amount of knowledge here.
I was born in 1979 and just for kicks I was trying to find a 79' so it felt like faith when I found a 79' for sale on this very forum.
So... In february of 2016, my old man who just turned 70 by the way and it still up for pretty much anything, even though he still runs his own consulting company and flies about a gazillion miles a year, set off in a rented u-haul to go pick this thing up.
