Hey I'm Mike. Below is my mostly stock 79 Special. The only mod is the air box was removed by the p/o. I've had it for about 18 months and still looks like it did the day I bought it. I haven't had any problems with it at all. It's been a fun little bike, but I think it's time for some upgrades/mods.

I've started lookin for parts for a PMA charging system.
I'm going to switch the points out for a Pamco system.
LED turn signals and brake light.
1in bars and all that goes with it.
Get rid of the stock wiring and simplify it.
Moped headlight bucket with speedo.
New/different seat.

I think that's most of the main things for now, maybe some exhaust. I don't think I'm going to hack on the frame right now. If anybody has any input of suggestions I'm all ears.

looks like a nice ride.

needle bearings in the steering head aren't a bad idea and bronze bushings or needle bearings in the swingarm are also not a bad idea, that is if you're looking for some better handling

Pamco iggy and green or ulimate coil, Radio shack/ Chrysler rectifier, regulator in addition to what pa23driver mention. Makes it a more reliable ride. I like the looks and feel of a nearly straight drag bars. The long and tall gastanks of the XS 850-1100. Not the teardrop styles like we have. Hold more too.
