That;s right, xjwmx, but I wonder when they got to the point of not making improvements? When they stopped making them of course, but what will they have done when the new model comes out?
The center rod on the two piece set-up is a combo of aluminum and hardened steel end caps. All aluminum wouldn't hold up on the ends I'm guessing. Yes, the 650 long rods are all steel but Yamaha did use long rods of the aluminum/steel end cap variety on other models, the TX/XS500 for one.
