New to the Xs world

Hello al RdTodd here, I recently scored a pair of Sx's (650 n 850 Special) That have sat for years. Problem is all I have is a bill of sale as the owner is battling Alzheimers plus the Vin is scratched off from cables rubbing. Anyone had any experience with this? I want to sell the triple and go nuts on the 650. Any info is greatly appreciated thanx!

There is a stamped vin on the neck just to the drivers Right of the reflective label. The engine number also matched "from the factory" On the XS650 it's found just behind the tach drive by the front motor mount.

the XS850 is for sure a Special? (forward mount front axle, Weird Harold swivelling front calipers, tiny gas tank, stepped seat?)
What year is the XS650?
You'd be surprised at what'll swap between those two machines.
Like Gary sez, the bike's ID is also stamped into the steering neck.
And if the XS850 is like my XS11 the engine ID is stamped into a grooved horizontal surface just in front of the oil filler cap.
