No mark on top piston ring

Hi everyone,

Beginning my top end assembly today. The new rings I got from Cruzinimage do not have a mark on the top ring. The second ring has a mark, but nothing on the top. The old top ring has a very clear "RN". Anybody have any ideas on how to tell which way is correct? Does it matter for the top ring?

On that particular top ring, I don't think it matters. Typically, a marked ring is like that because the profile is tapered or has a step in it. One certain side needs to face up for it to work properly. The CruzinImage top ring has a perfect rectangle profile as far as I could tell so which side goes up doesn't matter. The set I installed seems to be working fine so far, no smoking and compression right up around 150.

So is it really possible that the top piston ring has no side? I see no marks...nor bevel sides?

Doing an XSjohn mod on a set of rings should be done with caution and by someone who understands and has a lot of experience with engines.

I will just leave the piston ring as is.. Even if there is no marks indicating the side up or bevel.
