Please help I'm new to xs's

Hello all my wife just found a 81 xs 650 at a yard sale that is pretty ugly to look at and I'd like to build a bobber outa it someday, Right now I can not get it running I have no spark I was wondering if some of you guru's could tell me how to wire it to get it to run I do not need any of the lights right now I just want the BARE minium to see if I can get spark for right now. The factory wiring harness is in really bad shape as it sits and the ignition switch is broken. I'd like to just throw a toggle switch and as few of wires as I can just to hear the old twin come to life again. Thanks in advance for any responses.

my 81 had a crappy harness when i got it also. You should either replace the harness or rewire it immediately. The factory fuse box is known to be the weak link on these bikes.

I'd love to rewire it but I'm not real sure where to start.
