Hello everyone. MY 1973 TX650 is popping out of 3rd gear. it seams fine in all the other gears. SOOO I'm assuming the dogs on the gear are damaged. IS there something else that might cause it? Like a shaft out of alignment or something wacky like that.. Thanks for your input.

Could be a number of things in the shifter or transmission.
I know one of my XS650's was having a jumping out of gear problem and I found a loose screw holding on the five legged star in the shifter. It's the Philips screw you can see in this picture I borrowed from another recent post. I replaced that screw with an Allen head bolt on one bike.

Look in your manual... there's a procedure for adjusting (centering) the shift linkage. My first guess would be the gear dogs also, but I'd check and adjust the shifter first.
