Dear XS650 enthousiasts,

I've recently wet blasted all engine parts with great result. However, I've recently moved and stored all the parts away since I don't have time right now to continue my project. I sometimes go check on my "baby" and make a discovery that scared me! I've found what appears to be rust on the points where the rocker arms are placed.

Can anybody give me some advice? Is this game over for the part in the picture? Does this need special care or can it be used as is?

I've already put engine oil on all four points to prevent further rusting (is this wise?).

Really appreciate any help given!

Kind regards,

Niels

Hey Niels!

Welcome!

Not a big problem, oiling it is fine, that should come off easy with a bit of steel wool or a scotchbrite pad. That is only surface rust, oiling it was probably the best thing you could have done.

Also check your piston sleeves, they may have done the same. I just dipped my finger in some oil and smeared it on them to prevent further rust forming.

Hope this helps!
