Rev counter jumping/not charging

The rotor is actually pretty robust. The windings are 22ga copper. Grounding power to the frame wouldn't fry it.
What did fry it was heat and age. Happens a lot when the rotor's 40-50 yrs old. That's why I rewind 'em.

When you get the new rotor, it isn’t very delicate. I’m running a rewind over 20 years now. I think heat, vibration and 42 years killed the rotor. I remember years ago at a 650 rally we had at least two bikes suffer rotor failures.
