Roller starter project

Alright to start with I have to buid a proer ramp soon.
I did a test with me sitting on the bike
the starte turned the wheel over very well.
The rollers don't like my shinko tire. I guess it's too flat don't take much of a lean to have the tire come off the roller :(
Any way here is the first start up.

How fine it would be if the motor had a 90 degree drive on it, you could swing wide with the front tire and roll the rear over it frontward.
Or the way it is now, but inset the starter into a bit of a platform so there would be no backwards push up the ramp.

Good job!

I wouldn't consider <1000cc a large engine. the problem with my chopper is the compression, and frankly the kickers on old ironheads are well known for giving a limp. running 10.5:1 compression with a fixed timing magneto can be a bear on cold starts even for a younger rider.

this bring back memories for anyone?

I might have installed the original starter parts for away from home starts. You did a good job on the roller build a thought provoking and rewarding I'm sure. The bike sounds great.

Hi Carbon,
me too! (Ooh, I love redesigning other people's stuff)
Turn the motor through 180º so it sticks out to one side.
Remake the base into a flat L-shape to suit the new motor position.
Rather than having to back the bike onto the starter, make a treadplate ramp at each end for drive-on drive-off operation.
And while that Fred Flintstone start switch seems to work OK, I'm sure you could do better.

Hey Fred,
Yes Sir I'm waiting for this on /off switch to show up to replace my goofy switch

Well, if you are going to buy one, that's not the one I'd pick.
That kind of switch stays on until it's turned off.
What I'd use would be an auto-off, like a giant horn or starter button.
Step on and she runs, step off and she quits.

Hey Fred I changed that switch into a push and hold switch.
