Can someone answer a question for me? Where is the starter cover located on a 1980 XS650? I was told it was on the side of the bike under where the tank sits, but all I can think of is the covers on the engine. The person also said it was teardrop shaped. This person is looking for one to see if I have one for sale here locally, but am damned to know what she is talking about. All I can think of is the cover on the bottom side of the engine right on the other side of the starter. And a picture would be great. Thanks from a dummy working on his first build.

Maybe your friend has some other XS not a 650 but a 400 or 500 or something else. They have starter covers over the starter that's on top of the transmission instead of under it.

Not really a friend, but someone who contacted me. I did not get a manual with the bike, but have a Clymers. I just do not see what this lady is talking about. I have looked all over, but can not, for the life of me, figure out what the hell it should be. I am thinking this person must have the wrong year. Thanks for your help.

All years of the XS650 are the same. As I said, the freind may not have the right XS. Yamaha built many different engines. The XS650 may be the best of the bunch. But there are others. XJ, TZ, RZ, SR. Lot of different prefixes.

Thanks, Leo. I will just let them know I do not have what they are looking for.
