I had looked and looked for a front fender for my 72 650 and have finally found one. While searching for the right fender I had been to Omar's and noted the original owners name was Phil Little. And in one of his builds he used a very short front fender that I liked a lot. Did a search and found his new web site: http://phillittleracing.com/ and his phone number. So I called him and this guy is awesome. I mean just a really good guy. He is going to build me a fender and ship it to me. It's rare in this day and age that you buy something from someone that has a personality and makes you feel really good. I loved talking to him and look forward to getting my new front fender. Here is a picture of the build with the fender I liked. It's the black Storm mid page /http://www.classic-japanese-bikes.com/Yamaha-XS-650.htm
if you're looking for a minimalist fender that incorporates a fork brace motolanna sells one, a bit pricey but its all stainless steel and pretty nifty looking
Hi 'driver,
dunno about pricey, it costs just $2 more than a TKAT fork brace.
I run a stock front fender AND a TKAT so if I had to replace both I'd save money by purchasing that combo instead.
That fender is for an XS650 but what year? The people that sell anything that will fit on a Yamaha is listed as if they are all the same. I hate sending parts back. That sucks plus the freight. Now I have to look up 60MM to see what that means in inches. LOL
I have seen all XS650 Front fenders from 73 -84 interchange. that is 34mm forks and 35mm forks. Earlier 72 front guard may as well i just haven't seen it.
I will use the 74-83 in my topic as the 73 front fender is slightly different to the 74-76 standard type and the braces wont interchange from the 73 guard with the 74-76 and vice-versa. The 72-73 guard and braces could/may be used as per the paragraph below.
74-76 guards have braces and they help as a fork brace as well. In the pic below the builder has modified the 74-76 front guard and modified the front guard braces and made a fork brace that incorporates a cut down guard. If i was going to build this i would keep the cut down guard as a bolt on piece as well as the made up brace for extra fork bracing.
