But I only paid $40 for it. :D

So last week I asked if this 73 750 twin was worth trading a $400 shot gun for. You guy's told me to run away from it because of the junk motor. Well I did run away from it last week end. The motor is just about froze solid. I couldn't budge it with my 200#'s. The owner did get it to kick all the way threw with a lot of force. I wasn't comfortable with that, but it was his bike. How ever, I did offer the guy $10 for the tool kit. He declined my offer.

So fast forward to this week end. I offered the guy $20 for the tool kit, which he accepted. To make a long story short, I got the rest of the bike for $40, with a title. I know this may or may not be a good thing. I'm just hoping the crank isn't locked up. But if it is, I'm thinking surely I can make a little bit of money off of parting it out. Maybe not. Maybe I wasted $40. I guess I'm about to find out.

The seat is super nice, the paint is decent. And it has the DID high shoulder rims that are really nice too. I figure I can scrap it and get my money back,,I hope.

So I thought I'd just share a couple of quick pic's for your amusement. You guy's can start laughing at me now.

Pull the plugs, squirt some Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder. Replace plugs and let sit for a week. After a week, pull the plugs and try to turn it over. Repeat until free or you give up. Good luck.

bwah ha ha ha bwah ha ha - hey its cheap enough. Flick it on e-bay, you might be surprised (or disappointed)...

  4. I'd buy it if it was in England! Got to be worth £500 GB over here: its a VERY rare bike and the collectors over here would jump at it

No, you did good. There are way more than $40 worth of useful parts for your 650 there. Like you said, the wheels are the nice D.I.D version and swap right on a 650. It doesn't show in your pics but check out the speedo drive and the cover plate for the second front disc - polished alloy and very nice bits .....

And don't forget the swingarm/chainguard combo, wonderful 650 upgrade.

It looks to be decent cosmetically. For 40 georges, clean it up and hang it on the wall!

Is that a GS650 hiding in the upper left?

  8. You stole it! Good on ya....at that price it's a helluva steal. Swingarm alone is 40 bucks.
With the titled neck I'd be looking for an untitled xs650 and a big bore 750 kit........but I'm crazy like that.

Thats a TX 750, only made for 2 years, it has internal crank balancers and when set up right they are smooth, 73 was the "dog" year but they are rare. If you want to unload the rims PM me. Good Score

  11. I have read that there is a following for these bikes in some countries in Europe... The word is, once set up properly with known fixes - they are a good bike which will run a long time.

I'd rather have the $40 back. Even in death they are still work (parting out). :)

  14. $800 , now thats a good markup!
My own XS came from Ohio, it was shipped over here in a container load by the shop I bought it from, wouldn't like to price up shipping just the one....pity!

I have one these in very rough condition. It came with a bunch of XS's I picked up. The guy tossed it in for free. I thought the wheels were cool,so I took it.

What size are the forks? Might be an easy front end swap for a dual disc conversion.

It does have the provision for the second disc. Would I be able to use my 72 disc and caliper?

How much longer is the later swing arm. I knew at one time,,,but I forgot. What does this upgrade do for me. Better ride I'm guessing. With the longer swing arm, wouldn't that mean my fender would not fit right. I have a very nice 72 fender. The 73 is rusted.
