Road it's guts out, 525 kilometres / 326 miles, the guys I went with are of Southsea Islander origin, really friendly group, the XS looks like a baby next to me
Took some things apart.

Getting a spare ready. Decided not to chance this. The lug is a little worse for wear and jumping it wouldn't spin the motor even with the plugs out.

A spare installed. Also found the transmission plug missing it's washer. There is a crash crack in the right side so will swap that. and put fresh oil in then jumper it for a compression test before it goes in the frame.

Well lets see, I boiled my carbs out on my Bike that had set for 13 years,Then used my Dremmel tool to polish them up nice and shiny. Replaced the choke lever. I cleaned up the petcocks, Kreem Koated the tank. I replaced both front Levers, unstuck the front Brake Master cyl, and got everything flushed out, put on a new old dealer take off seat that had sat on his shelf since 1975.I repaired the loose Handlebar grommets, nice and tight. replaced a front flasher, new Battery, cam chain adjustment cover gasket. Then got some wind in my face!!!

Starting to go back together after being apart for way too long. I didn't have the chance to get all the parts powdercoated like I wanted to due to time constraints of dropping it off. I need to get some projects done (or at least rideable) after this one is riding again, I'll be on to a xs400 cafe project then back on my xs650 rigid project.

Cleaned the rust off the fender bolts, derusted the underside of the front fender and clear coated it, polished the front fender with liquid wax and 0000 steel wool.

The kicker parts were delivered yesterday and I installed them this evening, too bad its so effing cold out (52*f). I'm not even going to test it tonite. 45 years ago, I would have.
Got a spare motor put in.

WER; is that a chunk of the intake valve guide? Can't say as I've ever seen that before.
Talk about whistling by the graveyard!!!! Surprised it didn't suck that in and frag a piston!

Yes it is. Here is the piston, I haven't cleaned it yet but maybe it is useable?

I dunno if it had anything to do with it but earlier in the day I had wound it up to 8.5 - 9K being stooopid.
I somehow suspect that valve may be a bit "out of spec" now. 
BWHAHAHA yes maybe. Nothing squeezing in a vice won't cure, I'm sure.
