XS 650 crankcases.

I am about to start building a rephrased XS.
I have lots of parts available. Are any crankcases better the next one , or are they
all the same ??

All about the same in the great scheme of things, no real known weak spots that I know of.
I'd be inclined to favour the later model cases all the same

74 up for the cases. Agreed that say 78-79 to the end may have some minor improvements, casting technology/quality might have improved as time went on.
