xs1 seat for a 77 xs650

Hello I am building myself a custom xs somewhere between a cafe and a restoration. I am reupholstering my seat, and I would like to use the seat cover from and xs1. is this something that has been done or are the dimensions even compatible?

I believe your later seat pan is too wide for the narrower 70-73 seat cover, which is tight enuff already.

Yes the early pan is smaller, especially the front section gets narrower and I think it's shorter front to back as well. 70-72 are the same size, 73 got a wider front section. the hinge locations changed between 73 and 74 with the big frame upgrade. 74-79 standard pans interchange. Special seats have extended skirts that match the angled special side covers. 81 up seats use different mounts.

So what if I got a complete seat from an xs1? Would it mount or is there anything I could do to the seat pan to make it?

If you can find a good pan, and good with a little fabrication you can make it work. Then get a cover, and have it put on.
I'm turning a 1980 into a 71, and plan on a thick peice of abs plastic and get it covered to mimick a 71 seat
