Bob, how did you get the chrome dust covers off

So Bob, how did you get the chrome dust covers off the forks ?

Does anyone know how to remove the dust covers on these forks. This is a 1972 with some custom work done on the forks and I can't figure out how to remove those dust covers over the seals. I realize the forks have to come off first. Any help would be appreciated.
