HYUNDAI ECM

SAF is simulated airflow from MAP sensor. 2005 should have both MAP and MAF.
MAP for transients along with TPS.
MAF is for non transients.

Need to know what's up with ECT unplugged!

Will do. Can't get it tonight.
I'll write it all down in the morning after my commute.
Serious time constraints during weekdays.
transients map and tps???

Transients are gas pedal stabs or rapid accel/decel commanded by your right foot.
Get complicated huh?

TPS has #1 authority on spark and fuel
MAP has #2 authority
MAF has more steady state #3 authority
O2 takes it from there(if in closed loop) You need to take the ECT out of the picture to force open loop, to eliminate closed loop on any exhaust oxygen sensor feedback on fueling

I want to see hot idle no ECT connected data

Thanks, for your time. Really appreciated, my MECH passed away a few years ago. I've been doing my own work since.
I always did before, but four kids the wife's and my rig made me outsource.
A little new info and history.
My bro bought it from a not so reputable lot, after the neighbors' tree fell on his car. He needed wheels fast.
So, at an average of $7000 used, private sale.
He went to Coke head Joe instead. betting $3000 for the Elantra. My bro got pissed about the light and had him do a timing belt,
supposedly he did and then, again the dreaded light. Dave, cause Dave's his name, (Dave's not here man.) Salt of the Earth.
Sidebar (I'll let an acquaintance know I own a shovel, and I'll let and friend help me dig a hole.
But only a brother's allowed to help me fill it.) Absolute trust!
So he put in a crank pos sensor in. No joy, and he was off to the races. He chased every code and replaced every sensor that came up.
Full exhaust including Manifold, CATS mufflers, even put tires on it. He got so hot with it he shoved it in a corner of the yard and went out and bought another car.
First time I ever saw Dave Fu it. Since I.ve had it a new A arm and struts. looks like the PO did the left side but not the right.
That woke me up when it failed. :yikes: Wifey in the car at about 45 downhill, snap! Ye Ha!
I'll replace the left in warmer weather, just because bought the set.
So now it looks like I need to check timing marks and see if this DH Joe did it right.
QUESTION? Time is really of a concern. Electric or timing?
Yeah timing. Talking to myself again.
On the other hand, 50°+ Saturday??? Car or ride??? :banghead: Damn it!!! Winter's almost over, what's it cost for heated grips?
Ok, all FN around I'll run it as is, and get codes and then check timing,
Oh by the way my Haynes manual sucks! Worst most non informative worthless POS I've ever got from them! :twocents:
Another day. :)

Thank you for all your insight and help!!
Most sincerely AUTOMAN!
I am sorry for taking your time.
Wayyy too much for me. I'm gonna run it till it dies and dodge the cops.
It's just a Fn convoluted mess.
No garage, the need for specialty tools, the value of the car and time says no.
I just can't put her up that long for a proper fix.
Wanna talk XS?

I don't have one.
2 Borrani wheels and a swingarm.

how's it running without ECT
Sorry I missed your post, crazy at work.
Running the same, bucking and stalling.
It does run better at start up cold, but once it warms up almost seems worse.
I tried getting live data but , idle and spark advance were all over the place with a warm engine,
can I do that with the engine cold?
Pissy attitude the other day, hurt myself. Ready to light her on fire.
I did find a dirty ground on the firewall and cleaned it up. No change.
Can't find the MAP sensor. It's supposed to be on the intake plenum but unless it's on the back under side where I can't see. ??? I dunno.
Found the PCM, now just have to figure out how to remove it to get the part # so I can order one
Got news from my bro yesterday that he saw the seller put in a new timing belt, pulleys and water pump.
That doesn't mean he put it in correctly though.
Forgot to mention, this car has never wanted to start or idle after refueling (opening the gas cap).
Has to have throttle to start and idle or it will stall. Run better after about 5 min. Bum gas cap? not venting?
Gassing up this morning reminded me had a no start, cleared codes and no start. plugged the PCM back it started and off to work.
Ran pretty good from there.
I have next week off, will follow wires get the PCM ordered and see if there any sensors that were missed.

"cleared codes and no start. plugged the PCM back it started and off to work.

closed loop f/a feedback enabled by A CONNECTED AND CORRECT ECT sensor, good
not that, and not PCM, in light of new stuff.

DIS-CONNECTED, IS OPEN LOOP(NO O2 FEEDBACK FOR F/A CONTROL TO ACHIEVE 14.7/1 A/F OR .068 F/A)

May get more chasing around but valve timing via real measure(hard)
or just a comp test(easy)

I have to know if belt was installed a tooth-off. you have 2 until banging valves to pistons

Car starts and runs without the PCM, it just refused after I took the gas cap off to refuel.
I don't have a compression tester yet but I will get one this weekend. Needed it anyway for the bike.
Don't know how to check timing with it.
Belt check is pretty involved. Lots of stuff to remove.

forget timing for now
comp check needed

Good day All.
Just put the car back together, timing belt is correct.
What a cluster that was, :banghead: stripped and boogerd up nuts,
and of course, no room to fit my paws in there.
Refabed PCM should be in my mailbox any time now,
waiting on that. We'll see. Cold here, damp air and breezy.

New PCM, YAY!
No joy. :(
Started fine.
Ran her for a full 30 min from cold to hot, no problem, love it!
Gun it and zoom, yay!
Run it any throttle and hold, vroom then slowly drops rpm like it's starving for fuel, bucks or stalls.
:wtf: F electronics. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Anybody got a car with a straight 6 from the big three.
Fuel, air and spark on time.
I'm a dinosaur, I guess.
Next!

Dont know anything about cars
But putting it out here
Reset error codes ( perhaps write them up )
Start running and when problems come shut down and read out the error Code

Too late.
whos your johndaddy?
PCM/ECM was the culprit, unless...................................

doing the swap fixed connections somewhere

in the dyno lab, we were always chasing bad connections on sensors and wiring harnesses

Same codes as before.
Low signal at MAF ?
Bad connection?
Cleaned connection at the unit, looked good.
Can,t find any damage in harness.
When my friend gets home I,'ll get the old one and swap.
Going to try running in open loop and see what it does.
Still :umm:
