    Need help with front forks...

Thanks "Wherearewe." That answered the tightening of the bolt question. I figured/reasoned out that extended forks still use the same amount of oil as stock forks.

    Need help with front forks...

I just added two inches to my front end with Frank's Forks on a 1978 XS650 SE. Questions: 1) How do I get the Allen bolt in the bottom of each fork to tighten? The cylinder and piston the Allen bolt screws into just keeps turning inside the lower fork. 2) My forks are now 2" over stock...

LOL, thanks madjap, it's the second XS I've built. Thanks for the numbers 5 twins and ranch wrench. I'm not sure why, but I still can't find toque specs in my Clymer. Your help is appreciated...

    Intake Torque Specs

Usually I just tighten down the carb intake bolts, but am curious now if I should torque them down. Is there a torque specification for them. Can't find torques specs in my Clymer or XS650.com. Just not my day ;-) Anyway, anyone one have a suggestion? Just tighten them like I have been or torque...

    what motor mounts are necessary?

I agree with Daddy G that it looks much better without the upper engine mount. I don't think a chopper needs it anyway...

Has anyone tried building a belt drive XS650?

Thanks to all of you. I'm trying a new chain lube Angus. Dupont "Chain Saver." If you let it dry 60 minutes it's supposed to have minimal fling and it's clear colored. Wow, both remarkable stories Skull. LOL, I got a kick out of Dave Raynor's remark about why he went to a belt drive...

Has anyone tried building a belt drive XS650?

My son and I just finished a 1978 XS650 build. Now that we've had some time to put miles on it I've discovered our bright & shiny rear chrome wheel is always covered in chain oil. Without going into much detail I'm thinking about trying to make it a belt drive and how to do it. Has anyone...

40 Degree Raked Neck & Raked Triple Tree

I looked at the 750/850 front ends and instantly understood what you're saying about axle position on the forks. I misunderstood what you were saying and that it was backwards. Anyway, seems like a good theory. The whole front end was for sale for $75. That's an inexpensive cure and I think...

40 Degree Raked Neck & Raked Triple Tree

Thanks for the reply & help Fred... This bike was a XS650 Heritage Special. No bargain LOL, just a basket case and for me too hard to come by to pass it up. Also, I have the stock 35mm tubes that came with the bike. So...you're dealing with a dummy here. Are you saying the lower tree...

40 Degree Raked Neck & Raked Triple Tree

I bought a frame with a 38-40 degree rake. I need to lose 2 or even 3 inches to be less than the max 6 inches of trail. It's on the verge of flop, but don't want to fight re-positioning the neck. Whoever did the neck made it SOLID. Has anyone been through this and purchased a raked...

    Solo Seat Springs

Not here in town, but up on the mountain we had about 3 inches. It's still pretty fair weather for riding. Trying to get in what I can before it's too cold. Sure like your bike in the photo album. If you're up this way again let me know. Go to Diamond Lil's on Idaho City's Main St and have...
