    Need help reading plugs

Can someone please help me read these plugs and suggest possible jetting options. The engine is a 78 model with BS38 carbs. I don't remember the current jetting or needle settings but plugs look too rich to me. The engine was treated to a new valve job and new rings about 700 miles ago. The...

    Visual Impact kit

Thanks for the comments. The brake stay is off an XS400 and has vertical movement to allow for chain adjustment. The stay was also welded in place by the factory on the 400. The tank imo is a vast improvement over the stock Yamaha pos. . As far as the abrupt transition from round stock to...

    Visual Impact kit

Thought I would share some pictures of my Visual Impact kit brat build. Used 12" shocks from a 1978 XS400 to get enough suspension travel. Rear fender is mounted to swing arm. Handmade fender struts combined with sissy bar. Planning to use a king sportster tank to finish the look.

    Let's See The XS's

Converting my bobber to a brat this winter. Just installed a visual impact kit and fabricated a faux oil tank to hide the electronics. Finished the fender struts and made mounts for 04 sporty tank.

    Need tuning advice

I started the bike tonight after work and the timing appears to have changed after installing the new coils. Can anyone tell me if changing the coils alone can change the timing? Either way I guess retiming the points is the next step,

    Need tuning advice

Thanks 5twins. Actually, I did replace the springs on the advance rod today. The springs now snap the weight back and seem to work as it should. Before replacing the coils, the bike ran good (at least until the coils got hot). Battery is new and charging properly. After installing the coils...

    Need tuning advice

I recently replaced the 40 year old coils on my 78 XS with new stock coils from Mikes XS. The old coils stopped working when they got hot. Im running points ignition and everything is new. After installing the new coils, the bike runs rough when cold, backfire and no power. After bike warms...

    Do I need new coils?

I need advice regarding whether or not to purchase new coils. I recently built a bobber using an 1978 XS650 standard as the donor bike. Electrical system includes new battery, brushes, rotor, regulator and rectifier. Battery is fully charged and charging system works well. My problem is bike...

    VR 115 Regulator question

Unfortunately, the answer is yes, the VR1115 was being used before I found the left brush was grounded. Im hoping that because the 20 amp fuse did not blow, that the rotor was already toast and didn't burn out the regulator. I guess time will tell.

    VR 115 Regulator question

Thanks Retiredgentleman, and yes, I have it wired exactly as you stated. Before I discovered that my rotor was bad I had no voltage to the green wire. Giiven your comment, this may be due to the fact that the regulator wasn't reading the required ohms from the non-functioning rotor? I also...
