I know the end of the camshaft that has the dowel pin goes on the right side of the engine. Is there anything that goes on the left side? It looks like there is a slot for a woodruff key, but it seems to be completely covered by the bearings. Thanks in advance

So my pushrod and clutch screw assembly got munched because my chain was WAY too loose. I ordered up the mikes clutch screw assembly kit, short push rod, and ball bearing, push rod seal, etc. After completing install, and attempting to adjust clutch, I cannot get the clutch to disengage...

I haven't checked my charging system in a while. I've updated to Hughs PMA about a year ago and it was working great. I'll have to look into it again to make sure things are still good.

yes, Pamco was installed first. Set timing according to these instructions http://www.yamahaxs650.com/installing_the_8083%20advance.htm after Pamco install. Then moved onto PMA install and checked timing again. It seems to be right on. Would the ignition timing need to re-checked after PMA...

sorry, pma swap included hhb pma and pamco ignition. bike is 1980 special.

Just finished my pma swap. Pre-swap: the bike ran well, but wouldn't charge. I would never have to turn petcock to prime, it always started when in the on position. I believe the bike has an aftermarket petcock as it only has reserve, prime, and on positions. There was no vacuum line...

:yikes: i think the connector got a little too close the the regulator/rectifier? Or something else of equal heat output?

I've got a stock 1980 xs650 special (g?), got my HHB pma in hand and am waiting for back order on pamco ignition kit. My question is, if I install the PMA now, will I still be able to kickstart until the pamco comes in? If so, is there something I need to do differently than the instructions...
