    Got my first deer...ouch.

Yeah..so that happened. Last night, I finished up syncing and adjusting the fuel mixture on my '80 XS. It has been sitting for almost two years with a rotor issue that I resolved a couple of days ago. So I was excited to take it out and test out the final result of the tuning. All went well...

Custom Rewind Rotor - Potential Problem

Anyone seen anything like this with their Custom Rewind Rotor? Here's what happened... A couple of days ago, my charging system stopped working. Initially, the indicator of such a problem was the headlight not coming on when the bike was started. This happened at dusk when I was quite a...

    Fall of the machine...'80 XS650

HA.......the dreaded ROTOR FAILURE has struck, so the XS is down for now. I got 178 break-in miles on it, when the rotor went kaput yesterday. I pulled it, checked it, and I'm getting 0.7 Ohms on the readings. I'm not surprised really, as these old rotors seem to suffer that fate after many...

    Air Filter Rehash

Taking the ideas of others here. I saw the threads about using a Briggs & Stratton air filter element, cut down, to fabricate a nice paper air filter. I also saw the posts of others who bought other foam type filter media and just reused the old filter cage. Here's my take. I did buy the...

    447 Type Rings - Hastings?

There were a few posts here and on the garage, dating back to 2006 about the use of Hastings piston rings (2c4640) for an Acura. Has there been any consensus on how well they perform, as compared to the ones that are offered by Mikesxs? I think I can get the Hastings ones locally, and a bit...

    Rise of the machine...'80 XS650

Those of you on the old 650rider.com site may remember this thread I posted: http://650rider.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7681&highlight=Cain At the time, I also had an '81, but I sold that later in 2009. Finally started rebuilding the '80. I had stripped it down to the...

    Lock tabs or just locktite...

Trying to be cheap, but not stupid. Was wondering if there is any necessity in using the lock tabs on the rear sprocket, and/or the front/rear brake disk. Was thinking that locktite blue should suffice with the original bolts. Was even thinking of going with stainless bolts..maybe allen head...

    525 Sprockets available?

I ask, because I have a brand new EK 525 X-Ring chain that I would like to use. I bought it for a different bike, and ended up not needing it. So, I thought about the possibility of switching the front/rear sprockets to 525. MikesXS only has the 520 and 530 sets.

    TC Bros...are they for real?

TC Bros...They are for real.... Ordered a set of bronze swingarm bushings from the TC Bros guys on Ebay about a week ago. Paid via PayPal immediately after I clicked the Buy It Now. I ask if they are for real, because I heard nothing from them at all. Then, yesterday, I received an email...

    Broken float post...Argh!

Posted over at the garage... Accidentally broke off a carb float post. Anyway that can be fixed? Otherwise, does anyone have a pair of '80 or later BS34's they would be willing to part with? I really only need the left hand side carb body. I also have a pair of BS38s, pre '80, that I...
