Update time! Well that's the crank case bolted together and torqued up, gave everything a lube up before smacking it together again, nice to be able to get it on my stand as well! I've got a blanking plate on the way for the starter delete and also need to purchase new sprockets so any advice...

Well spotted! You are correct, at some point in this thread (I can't remember where) I worked out that the engine is a 1976 xs650 😁

Update time! So I've got the motor back and it's all lovely and shiny! I've now started my journey back to an engine in 1 piece! I'm waiting on some replacement bits and bobs, split pins, washers etc but going over everything and dry fitting some bits I'm pretty confident with it going...
