Thanks 2m!
That’s better than I hoped then! Yeah, I was pleased with the .05 numbers (they seemed pretty dead on, and consistent) and the calculated lobe centerlines, but was mostly concerned about the intake valves opening and closing so early or late. 8 degrees seems like a lot. Hence, my...
I have been re-assembling my bored, rephased XS650SJ. I have hit snag while degreeing the cam, and want to ask your advice.
Background: Valve job, head re-surfacing, and boring (to 700) by Hoos. 447 crank and cam 277 rephased by Hugh's. New pistons, rings, cam chain, cam guides (both)...
Awesome pics, thanks! Yeah, I'm using the stock Heritage Special tank, but I *think* I *might* be able to get them to fit if I have the sides of the coils right up against each other on the bracket. I think this is the way I'm gonna have to go. Thanks!
That's awesome! I was wanting to do the same on my build, but hadn't found much out there about braided oil lines. Seeing it, yep, I'm gonna do it...along with the brake lines, and even the clutch, speedo and throttle cables. I think it'll look killer on my all glossy black and chrome bobber...
Nice solution! Thanks!! I had thought about making some kind of bracket to hold them on, but still wasn't sure if I could fit them in there. But, that may be my solution.
Btw, that's a really interesting front end! Like a double-wishbone suspension. Are those re-purposed fork tubes on the...
As part of the build on my '82 Heritage Special, I got Hugh's PMA kit and PamcoPete's complete re-phased kit from MikesXS. That kit came with two of those fugly Green monster coils. I can't get both mounted to the stock mounting point in the tunnel under the tank. I have heard that they get...
Crikey.
My son wants me to teach him to ride. This will make an excellent lesson for two points: One, countersteering IS HOW you turn. Two, Total situational awareness. If you can't see it, ALWAYS ride like a fire engine or a ravine is around the next corner...or cross street...or in your...
That's an AWESOME cross-reference! That link needs to be sticky!!
Thanks, Gary, that will help quite a bit. Looks like the V-star front end might very well be a straight bolt on conversion, and the V-star Classic sports the 130/90-16 wheel I'm wanting. I've already found a couple of V-star...
Yep, that V-Star front end is exactly the look I want...I'm not sure if it will fit the XS650's neck though, and I don't want to cut and weld the neck tube. I'll see if I can find bearing size on that front end, though. It might be exactly what I need.
I just found an huge list of axle and...
Here's what 1984 XS650-SJ Heritage Special looked like before I started my build, what I'm hoping it will look like when I'm done with the build, and what it looks like right this minute. :) I hope I remember how to put it back together. lol.
I'm doing my first build, and shooting for something similar to the bike below. I've been doing a lot of research, but figured this would would be a good place to ask a few questions of the experts, before I try to re-invent the wheel. Two questions:
1. Has anybody managed to put a 16"...
