Wow, so many great-looking bikes in this thread! Here's my contribution. Started as a stock 81 Special and became a long, slow project that I just "finished." Got a lot of guys on this forum to thank for that!

Gasket Cleanup - When is it "good enough?"

Thanks fellas. I'll stop by the hardware store and grab some paint stripper and lacquer thinner and get these looking real good. I also ordered some ThreeBond gasket cement for the reassembly. Saw some threads on how people use it on their head gasket. Should I also use on the base gasket or...

Gasket Cleanup - When is it "good enough?"

Hey All - I'm doing a top end job and I have been cleaning up the remnants of the old gaskets with some WD40 to soften them up and then a gentle scraping with a blade. I don't want any leaks when I put the engine back together, but I also don't want to scrape too much and end up ruining the...

    Aftermarket Headlight Grounding

interesting...never knew that about the steering bearings. no hi beam. I'm not thrilled about that but I rarely use it anyway. Got it connected and yes it does work with the ground attached to the metal grommet in the headlight shell. I may end up splicing in with the old headlight ground...

    Aftermarket Headlight Grounding

Hey guys, (likely) a stupid question for you: I bought an aftermarket headlight and it only has one wire (main power) coming out the back. I opened it up and it has a ground wire also that it attached to a metal grommet in the shell. My question is, do I need to cut the ground wire and...

False Neutrals and Slipping out of Gear

finally got around to getting the RH cover off, and cooltouch called it. hook on the end of that spring was broken so it was just hanging there, whereas it should look like the second picture here: http://www.sense.net/~blaine/650clutchcover.html I had ordered part #05-0039 from Mikes...

Noob questions for You to answer!

not sure about the electrical pics, but the first one like sand said is the clutch push rod. stock rods are three pieces with bearings in between them. its fine that you took it out, but when you put it back make sure the tapered end is facing out. also, wondering where i can find a helmet like...

False Neutrals and Slipping out of Gear

took the LH cover off last night. nothing really awry except that i did notice some free play as you described from the shaft connected to the shifter foot pedal. it was probably about 1/3" maybe a bit less. I wasn't able to get the RH cover off. I thought i got all 10 screws out but the damn...
