Im putting together a 76 xs650 with an 1980 35mm fork. The 1980 caliper is totally shot so I need to replace it with something.

I was staring at my wr450 and thought about the caliper from a dirt bike. The Japanese calipers are almost all a nissin 27mm 2 piston slider calipers. The euro bikes use a brembo 28mm 2 piston slider.

The 27mm x 2 gives almost identical area to the stock 1980 38mm slider caliper. The 28 mm x 2 gives about 8% more area. Both have sintered pads available.

Does it seem worth it to fit a dirt bike caliper to the stock rotor? May need to make a spacer. These are light calipers, easy to find, clear spoked wheels and work well with 11mm master cylinders. A little weak on bigger dual sports, but the xs rotor is bigger than the stock dirtbike rotors. Hard to say if it's worth the effort vs going to a 4 pot 65mm brembo.

Any experience?

Thanks,
Mike
