Health care vent

Hi boxcar,
your quote about the poor lady with the brain tumour being told to stand in line and hope not to die meanwhile don't show that US style private health care is inherently better
than Canadian publicly funded health care, it shows that the Canadian system needs a giant boot up the arse.
And BTW, it ain't free.
It's a pre-paid benefit for Canadian Citizens that's financed from taxes.
And because it's run by Government departments it ain't run all that well.

The one HUGE thing that makes non socialized medicine better than the socialized medicine is choice.
If I feel that I am being treated unfairly at a given health care facility I am FREE to go elsewhere.
If I don't like my insurance , I am FREE to find better insurance.
If I can't afford what I want , I am FREE to work harder or change jobs or stop spending so much on my cable tv or cell phone and invest that money in health care.
If I disagree or am uncomfortable with a given decision or diagnosis I am FREE to get a second , or third ETC.
opinion.

The way I look at it , I'd rather have those choices and my earnings to make those choices.

You would rather give those choices and a huge chunk of your earnings to a government body to make.

I'd rather not give up my freedoms .
I'm perfectly happy making my own decisions and taking responsibility for them.

Notice that I am not comparing the Canadian system directly to the USA's system .

I , frankly , don't care to make this a " my country is better than yours " kind of argument.

This isn't a foot ball game where there must be a winner and a loser.
In this situation all must win.

I'll take the side of consumer freedom over socialism every time.
I , by the way , have history on my side.

Hi boxcar,
you are also free to die untreated if the cure costs more than you can pay.
And apart from some guy living in a cave in the mountains we are ALL socialists.
We agree to speak a common language, on which side of the road to drive, that child molestation, wife beating, robbery and murder are wrong and that the perpetrators should be punished.
We even agree to be taxed so that the Government that we have elected can pay for stuff that individuals can't.
Like the average heart transplant.

Most of what you describe as socialism is actually not.....
IE:
The common language part , that depends on what part of the world you live in. I doubt you speak Vietnamese.

Child molestation and wife beating. A moral and legal issue. Not a socialistic platform.

You may want to research socialist country's , some are fairly lenient on that issue....... Greece for instance.
While all non socialist country's have a pretty dim view of the subject and tend to treat offenders rather harshly.

Robbery and murder . Again you try to argue that we are all socialists because we have morals and laws against wrong doers.
I'm sorry man you are confusing Socialism with modern living conditions.

A limited government is needed for any society to thrive , rules are needed to prevent anarchy , That doesn't equate to socialism.
Capitalists require rules as well.

Socialist By definition :
Economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods . IE Health care.

A system of society or group living in which there is no private property . Do you own a car or motorcycle ?

A system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state. REALLY !!!!!

Is that truly what you want and are advocating?

I'll stick to making my own decisions and owning them thank you very much.

Hi boxcar,
what you describe so eloquently isn't what I'd call socialism, it's an extreme form of communism.
as in a Nun talking about "Our false teeth"
As I see it, it's best we all chip in on paying for stuff that average wage-earning individuals cannot afford.
Like the average road bridge. Or heart transplant. And no, the heart transplant don't only benefit the recipient, it also benefits fhose who depend on him living a useful and productive future life and in the long run, that's everybody.

Actually I was being lazy .
The definition is from the Webster's Dictionary.

And you are speaking to a transplant recipient.

I would be described as a texted book blue collar guy . Not a lawyer.
And haven't gone broke yet. That is thanks to my Blue cross Blue shield insurance.
Expensive ,yes . But it was there when I needed it, and My problems were solved in record time.
I think the longest I have ever had to sit in a waiting room was about 1/2 hour.
At least ,that is , since I stopped using the VA.

I have worked my entire life to provide for my family , comfortably.
I served my country when called, and ( luckily ) have never been convicted of a crime.
I expect others to do the same....
I will be the first in line to help out a brother in need. Ask any who know me.
But I'll be damned before I let some puke in Washington or anywhere else tell me that I have to take from my family so they can provide for another.
That is my choice not the governments.

I have never seen any government agency that could manage a buck as well as any normal house wife or working stiff.

I've got a great idea. It's called voluntary socialism .
You and your friends donate 90% of your own remaining income ( after taxes ) next year to various social programs . That way you won't have to feel so guilty for having so much.
Practice what you preach.

And by the way, bridges and roads are paid for with fuel taxes and licensing fees in the USA. I don't know how Canada does it.
If you don't drive a car , truck or motorcycle you don't pay the tax. Capitalism at it's finest.......
