I would avoid Helen. It's just a smaller version of Pigeon Forge but even more fake. I avoid it like the plague.

Good move, unless you like traffic. Columbia is good for history buff. I have a daughter living there. Greenville area probably has something besides good motorcycle roads. I've done a lot of riding around there. Augusta, not unless you want to visit the golf course. Dahlonega, Georgia is good, but might be off the path.I have seen a few videos of pigeon forge and already wrote it off.

Franklin, NC is a small town which is mostly locals and those hiking the Appalachian Trail. One of my favorite breweries is there as well https://lazyhikerbrewing.com/. From there it's a beautiful drive to Highlands which unfortunately has a lot of touristas.
