Want to build an XS650 cafe. Have located a 1978 special. Is the frame on a special the same as a standard. Concern is about the steering head angle.

There are minor differences in the frame, nearly all of the differences have to do with rear shock location, AFAIK the steering head angle is the same, they use the same forks.

Right you are, Gary; no difference in the steering head. Shocks are tilted forward a bit on the Specials, compensate by using a taller shock than you'd mount on the Standards. For better handling in street use, I recommend 13-1/4" to 13-1/2" eye-to-eye for Standards, 13-3/4" to 14" for Specials.

Here's the 2 frames dimensions to enjoy.
