Having the need to remove a broken stud today I went for the normal method, drill a hole up the centre tap in a fluted stud extractor and hey presto.
However upon opening the box with the extractors within I found one missing, guess which one, probably lost or broken by the previous user, guess who that was?
After a quick think I came up with an alternative, Torx bits have flutes, so I used a T15 tapped it in and it did the job.
I know this type of stud extractor is favoured by our learned colleagues. I am ever grateful for their input.
Nice improvisation! We had an expression at work: "...use what you have, make what you need...". It doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to work. Your solution obviously worked. Congratulations, and cheers!
