Some of you may recall that last November I found a 77D in a barn over by Duluth. We had a discussion here about whether it was tracker material or should be resto'd. The concensus was resto so that's what was undertaken. Here are the results of that effort.

What was done: (in no particular order)
Total disassembly of all components excepting the motor
Rebuild Carbs and Petcocks
Rebuild M/C and front caliper, replace pads
Set valves, cam chain, sync carbs
Replace points, condensers, plugs, plug wires, boots, etc.
Replace tires w/Shinko 712's, tubes, rim strips
Replace wheel bearings/seals
Powdercoat rims and hubs (bright aluminum)
Polish case covers and all misc aluminum as needed
Replace front fender
Replace rear fender and tail light w/78 Special parts
Replace air filters
Replace headlight ears and indicators
Service chain and sprockets (no significant wear apparent)
Clean sump filter screen and modify w/copper barrier mod
Replace head bolt washers w/copper, retorque head
Compression test, 158 left-160 right
Mechanic quote, "Runs beautifully, very quiet".
Rebuild front suspension, forks
Add zerks to side stand and center stand
Service swingarm, bushings checked good
Remove Reserve Lighting Device
Remove, polish and reinstall exhaust system, replaced gaskets
Service steering stem bearings, checked good, not replaced
Polish out tank and tins
Clean and lube all keyed locks, (ign, fork, tank, seat)

THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all the members who helped me with this! You guys are an amazing wellspring of knowledge and support.

Here are a couple photos..........SHE'S FOR SALE FOLKS!!!

Very nice . How much are you asking ? Oh, and why did you have to remove the reserve lighting device ? ( I still have one on my bike , is it going to cause me problems if I leave it ?)

Thanks for the comments. The reserve lighting device gets pitched because it serves no useful purpose (imho) and sooner or later will give trouble.
How much? Not sure, need to do the math but when I figure it out I'll put it in the classifieds.

Nice work Roy. Good luck with the sale.
Are you watching the bikes and prices on ebay for comparision?
Currently I'm watching the F model for sale in CA. The BIN is above 3K.
The bid hasn't met the reserve.

Wow, that is super nice. I would hate for someone to buy it and put many miles on something that clean/restored. Nice work.

Great job Roy. You can see the attention to detail in it. You sure you don't want to just keep it? Be a nice piece of art for your office. Well, whats next? Is their a chop in the future?

Sorry, I must disagree. Lots of happy, fun filled miles is exactly what she needs. It's a nice bike but not museum quality. It will make someone an interesting, entertaining friend.

Man, that is a sweet bike. An XS 650 for a motorcycle collection. Fire that baby up and make all the old guys jealous!

I am jealous 'cause it looks like mine should look,
