Hello fellow XS lovers. I am new to this forum format so please bear with me. I have read the tech. topics, but could not find any specific answers to my attempted mods. I am looking for possible Yamaha models (or another make if I have to) to put cast wheels on my 74 650. My biggest caveat is that I wish to retain the stock rear wheel size of 18" and retain the drum brake. Some early 80`s models had both but were 16". The only model I can find that may be a suitable donor is the SR500. Now, from pictures I have been able to collect, I have seen them with both drum brake, AND the 6 bolt pattern for the rear sprocket. (I realize searching for one of these may be difficult, but the wheel is still available new so I am told...) Not sure if this pattern is the same as the stock 650`s or not. Some of the other possible donor wheels (British model of XS250) could work also. XS400, certain models of the RD350LC had a rear drum mag also. I did notice some of these wheels have a 4 bolt pattern for the rear sprocket as well as cush drive. I understand cush drive on the 650 could be advantageous. My bike has got the front end from a 77 650, so the front should not be a problem brake disc wise. I don`t mind if I have to go to an 18" front from the current stock 19" either. Lots of donor bikes for the front! Has anyone done this ? Are there any aftermarket wheels for the 650? Any info as to where to find these parts will be much appreciated. (Wheel, and all associated brake parts for the rear) Where I live there are poor resources for salvage parts. Yes I am aware of the weight, but am more after looks than for speed...Thanks in advance.
