Health Thread

HI Fred..I have eliminated processed cane sugar...I used it mostly in the 5 cups of coffee i had everyday with 2 to 3 teaspoons of sugar per cup...I have also cut out all processed foods..all fast foods..pizza..bread..bagels... gone from my diet..the only fruits i eat are Berries..Blueberry,Strawberry,Blackberry and Raspberry...with real whipped cream on top....and I can have...Bacon with 2 eggs and cheddar cheese...for breakfast everyday...
BTW call me Ben ;)
Edit..In place of sugar I use Liquid Stevia. in my coffee....as opposed to powdered Stevia
It took a while but i have finally gotten used to the taste of it in my coffee.

Hi Ben,
if I could learn to do it then you can too. Drink your coffee straight black, that is.
You'll soon get to appreciate the pure taste and pandering to your sweet tooth with synthetic sugar is a bad thing.
Sugar substitutes will keep reinforcing your taste buds' craving for sweetness and did you ever check what those synthetics are made from?

I have lost nearly 50lbs by cutting my carbohydrates to 20g per day..or less..I consume no sugar at all. Theres another way to fuel your body besides carbohydrates and sugars..because using them as a source of energey casuse you to store fat. Ketone energy on the other hand burns fat...So a diet high in protiens and saturated fats is a ketone diet...It works As long as I adhere to the strict 20g per day limit for total carbs then i continue to lose weight. 9 months ago i was pre stage 2 diabetic and weighed 200# on my 5'9" frame. I am now very close to 150# and my goal is 145# so the end is near,...As for maintaining the diet..I am already..i am not hungry as much as you would think..My cravings are more subdued...It will be easy to maintain this as a lifestyle...I may flucuate + or - a few lbs as I add some carbs back into my diet every now and then...
I have gone from an XL to a Medium shirt and a waistline that has shrunk from 36" to 30"...My blood sugar numbers are back within the normal range and I feel better now at age 66 than i have for the past 10 yrs...Sugar is the enemy...I am living proof that the Ketogenic diet works...

.. you are proof that its possible to change a lifestyle. put T2 into remission and reduce your risk of coronary heart disease well done .
I've got a long way to go yet but you're achievement is inspiring

Fred...Of course I check..Stevia is not artificial..its 100% natural look it up,,, ;-)

Hi madmax,
it ain't the kinda sugar that nature puts in fruit that's the enemy, it's the other kinda sugar that Big Sugar processes out of sugar beet.
y!

Fred sorry to disagree bud but sugar is sugar no matter where it comes from. It all gets treated the same way in the body when we consume it.

You really should do a little research into sugar and Insulin .........what you are saying is simply perpetuating incorrect information about sugar in all its forms. Misinformation and ignorance is what has killed millions of people in the past 3 decades from Diabetes and strokes

We are told that eating fruit is healthy but once you have looked into how much sugar fruit contains then most of it is very bad for Diabetics which is why Ben and I stick to berries which have very low sugar content.

Stevia is made from leaves a natural substance which has a very low carb content of 0.5g and a sugar content of 0.1g for every teaspoonful . its the only sweetner choice for Diabetics .

Thanks..I have been lucky..My health has been fairly good and I know i havent the health issues many others have...Many years as a runner have helped to mediate the degradtion of my health but again all issues self inflicted and reversible..In my case it was really easy to do this diet..I never think of it as a diet. as theres plenty of things I can eat...I dont crave sweet things..too often any more..once in a while but its a far cry from just a year ago...
You can do it too...It just depends upon your level of determination... stick with it..you're worth it... ;)

Question for you guys. Is honey better for you to put in coffee rather than sugar?

Believe me the hardest thing for me was to adjust to the taste of liquid Stevia in my coffee...It is concentrated and the bottle it comes out of it is easy to oversquirt it..I think it has taken several months but now I am totally used to it..its not artifical theres nothing bad in it...its a Godsend...
One more benefit..I always had a bad case of acne in patches on my scalp..I like to shave my head and it was like a Strawberry patch all the time...but since I have eliminated sugar from my diet and consequentially from my body..all that acne has dried up and gone away...I was always wearing a hat to cover it up...no more...

Hi peanut,
sucrose vs fructose?
And Stevia's just made from leaves, eh? So's cocaine, right?

ou can do it too...

its has been difficult for me . I have spent 60+ years with carbohydrates as my main food source and the last 30 years avoiding fats due to Government lies .
I am thoroughly addicted to carbs and I have always used them as a comfort food which doesn't help. It is why I am now carbohydrate intolerant and hyperinsulinemic

I have eliminated bread and potatoes and all refined sugar but I still feel that craving for carbs after my main meal just as I once craved cigarettes.
Cake and biscuits have been my main challenge as they are instant gratification straight into the blood stream.

I'm getting there .... I'm loving eating butter cream and full fat milk again and I eat cocktail sausages cheese and nuts as a snack when the cravings are really strong occasionally.

I've never tried snorting it:)

granulated sugar is made up of sucrose and fructose . Sugar manufacturers refine sugar at huge cost to add fructose because fructose is about 10x more sweet tasting than pure sucrose alone .

My inspiration is a Deaf man ..a friend of mine in california..he has lost over 112lbs on this diet. His weight was in excess of 300#..He is now maintaining his newfound health and he has no intention of going back to where he was..and he was in a very bad place....makes me emotional when i see how well he has done and affected my life..its a game changer...

Try buying a product called MCT Oil aka Medium Chain Triglyceride oile distilled from Coconut trees and is within Coconut oil..it is refined out of Coconut oil and it is pure Ketone Oil..I used it in what is known as Bulletproof Coffee..there are many recipes for this ..But Using this oil mixed in smoothies or with coffee..the Ketones feed your body and energize your brain..it will help you break the carb addiction..it will help you to control your cravings..I dont use it much now..but back in the beginning the 1st 4 or 5 months i used this MCT oil a couple times per day..it really made a big difference for me... It isnt cheap and you cannot buy it locally .only online ..I buy mine thought Amazon ...If you have any questions pls feel free to ask..

its a good question and one that perplexes everyone until they get Diabetes and start doing a little research into sugar.

There is no such thing as bad sugar and good sugar ...it is all exactly the same sugar no matter whether it comes from the sugar bowl or honey or the sugar that is released when your body breaks down the carbohydrates you eat .

Vegetables are healthy right ? we are told to eat our 5x a day by the Government but vegetables are simply carbohydrates and they all get broken down in the body into glucose which is basically a sugar.

The only things that we eat that contain very small amounts of carbohydrate and sugar is fat and protein which is why they are the main macro nutrients that Diabetics eat . When you eat a ketogenic diet the body goes into ketosis and is able to burn the stored fat and use it for energy . All the time we eat a lot of carbohydrates the body converts the carbs into sugar for energy and doesn't burn the fat stores instead .

Good advice ben You have obviously read about Tom Watsons amazing weight loss and his fondness for butter in his coffee. I've forgotten for the moment who coined the phrase bulletproof coffee i think it originated from one of the writers of the Pioppi diet . i downloaded it to my Kindle the other day and read it all the same day. The recipes are a bit naff though

I try to eat 2x tablespoons of Extra virgin olive oil a day and use butter , lard or plain olive oil for cooking
I also try to eat oily fish like sardines and mackrel to increase my Omega 3
I usually put heavy cream in my coffee but have used butter on occasion.

"You WILL clean your plate because the wicked Nazis are trying to kill the sailors who brought that food to you."
Even if what I left on my plate was the spuds from our own back garden.

Fred are you saying you mom had something going on out in the garden with some sailor?

This is what I use theres nothing artificial in it....You can find it in Wally World..Hope that clears up the load of misinformation thats out there...
