thanks tom, thats some good info. I might as well hold out! for that matter there seems to be a decent amount of non running commandos for under 2000

Is this a good deal for a 1971 Norton Commando

No, never did! I did get a stethescope and listened around and it did indeed sound more to be coming from the bottom end. Though, that was almost a year ago now and I could have been more thorough at the time. Also, it started up fine after sitting all winter, and I have already put a couple...

As long as you don't steal it. If I don't buy it, I could have a look at it for you...

Is this a good deal for a 1971 Norton Commando

The bike is pretty much ALL original in mint shape. The price is 4500, it's in town. i have very little money but figure for that price I can't lose, i.e. i could re-sell it on ebay in a heart beat. What do you guys think?

    float adjustment

In reading my manual I see that my float should be 24mm +/- 1mm. I get that, and i get how to measure it, however, I am curious about bending the toungue. If i understand correctly, I push the float to the top (bottom of carb body), and see where the tounge is. Am I correct in believing that...

    '76 xs650 w/ a problem (newbie)

Yeah, it is a nice looking bike. Though I notice the same issues on the angle of the carbs, and the clutch cable, both look odd.

    Swapping master cylinders

I was curious if anyone knows if a xs650 master cylinder can be used on an RD350, or for that matter if master cylinders can be swapped at all?

Quoted 2 to 3 hours for a valve adjustment

I hear the old ducatis can be a hassle for little things like that also. I had a feeling he wasn't aware... But even then, it's the same style as a triumph bonneville (as far as I know), and I would imagine most, if not all, experience motorcycle mechanics know the bonneville.

Quoted 2 to 3 hours for a valve adjustment

Called my local shop about syncing my carbs for me, figure they might do it for 30 minutes labour or something and save me some hassle. Told me they would have to set the valves first, so I say, "so an extra half hour for that?" he said, "no, thats a 2 - 3hours job" Imagine paying 200 bucks to...

    pamco position?

The picture in the thread you provided a link for is what I followed last august. Worked alright for me as a starting point. I double checked the timing yesterday, after having put on about 2200 km after installing the pamco and it was dead-on.

Building Manometer for barbless carbs: Where do I get a threaded nipple???

Yeah, I attempted yesterday and sucked some ATF into the left cylinder. It was a bit of a shitshow, as I wasn't sure how good of a seal the tubing had on the nipples resto sent me. So there I was squeazing each nipple, being weary of the kill switch, and trying to adjust the screw.... I put out...
