I have a 1980 xs650 with about 18k on the clock
Got it running with new plugs after it sat for 8 years.
"rebuilt" the carbs (132 main? any jet replaced, new gaskets, new float valves and rubber plugs)
did not replace throttle shaft seals
replaced petcock for a non vacuum style from mikesxs...
So I have 2 swing arms. One disk, one drum. The drum has a threaded hole on the bottom, the disk on the top. I thought a Zerk fitting, but that's a big space in there, and the swing arm pin has a Zerk built in. What's it for?
Also, they both have an indent on the side of the arm near the...
Here are the process photos, and the finished product.
Silver flash glitter blast base, duplicolor metalcast candy coats.
I'm happy for my first go at it. I know I can improve my process for the future.

Well, this is the bike that they'll be going on. This is my 5th XS650 build, but the first in a while. I've known about this bike for a few years. After finally scoring a set of...
Hey everybody.
I'm new around here and I'm new to bikes in general, so bear with me because I'm going to have lots of questions and make lots of dumb mistakes, I'm sure.
I am picking up a 78 xs650 Special in a few days which has been sitting for a while (a long while). It's pretty rough...
Thought i'd post a couple pictures. I used the OEM battery box idea, cut the tabs off to keep it all rubber mounted, then simply fab'd a plate to hold all electric's under the seat. The horn is mounted under the plate.
Worked out well, 750 kit, Hugh's Hand Built charging system & solid...
Hey I have a 1978 yamaha xs 650
I am building my bike and I hit a little bit of a wall
I bought a new harnesss from mikes xs, Also from mikes xs I bought the combined solid state regulator/rectifier
When I bought the bike it came with the electronic pamco ignition already installed,
I am...
I'm new to motorcycles in general but I recently purchased a 1975 XS650B. It needed and gas tank and a seat to be complete. I searched high and low for a decent, well priced seat to no avail. Eventually I stumbled upon an ad on craigslist offering a nice seat for $50. The catch was it was 3...
Hi this is meant to stir you lot up the way I see it if you big bore a engine in increases the cc so when someone describes there bike as a650 bigbore it actually not a 650 its a 706 850 and no longer a xs 650
It seems that some custom boys change the bike so much that its not what they...
Ok SEE IF YOU GOT THE BALLS TO BE HONEST................
This question is to all you men who have rebuilt an engine for the XS 650 total strip down and rebuild no cheap china parts proper parts well engineered quality.:)
IF THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE DONE THEN ONTO THE NEXT SECTION
If...
Hey guys what kind of welders are you using? I don't know shit about welding but I have a frame with a hardtail already on it. So I'm not gonna do anything structural. Im thinking of getting a decent welder and practice a bunch and trying to put things on the bike once I get better like the gas...
Picked up this 78 special for a fair price. She has a rather seemingly dark history with a ground off and restamped Vin, 81 motor, false year on title, and not to mention I bought it out of a pole barn in the middle of nowhere from someone who knew a few too many mob stories.
I know I know its...
While there are a few threads about these wheels floating around, the information is pretty scarce. Even more scarce is information about restoring them and actually fitting them on a bike.
This is a thread about how I did it for my bike. As you'll see as we go along, there were a few...
Hey guys when you are doing a build how do you treat the frame. I have a couple spots that was grinded down to the bare frame. Looks like they did that to get rid of rust. And where they welded on the hardtail is bare metal too. Just wondering if I should put something on those areas while I...
Hey guys im new here and I'm going to be doing a build. I have a xs650 frame with hardtail welded on I just want to get a bike that runs and transfer it all to the hardtail. Now I have a choice between getting a xs650 with 17000 miles on it it's a 82 heritage special or a 72 street tracker with...
Hello Everyone! Intro and Build Thread
Hello everyone, my name is Jeremy (nick name Wally) and from North Dakota. My son had bought a 1980 gs55o Suzuki this winter and have spent the last many weeks getting it running. That sparked my interest in riding again and so when i came across a 1980...
So been riding and building on and off for about 2 years now on this bike, thought it was about time to finish.
The frame sandblasted.
Some new rims and spokes from mikes.
Mockup with painted frame, new wheels, tank and seat.
The brembo kit from Pandemonium, funny thing was aparently...
I looked at the craigslist parts and accesories page and I saw an ad for Kawasaki motorcycle (parts). The listing said:
Selling a late 60's early 70's Kawasaki H1 H2? Motorcycle and extra frame for parts, no title. Motor cranks over, that's all I know about the condition.
And by that I knew...
Jumping right into my next build, I just finished up my project "Fast & Flow" and wanting to build something completely different (and more rider friendly) Don't get me wrong, I love the bobber, I just also love options :bike:
So here it is, picked it up a week ago, another '83 Heritage...
